I’d go for Chris Harris as VP and Clarkson for Secretary of the Interior (and Transportation, to save budget $$).

James May to run the Smithsonian.

Richard Hammond to run the NTSB.

Andy Wilman for Treasury.

Ugh. Similar feelings to Hillary. Happy the nominee is a woman, and in this case a woman of color because our country desperately must elevate them, but not thrilled it’s her. I hope this doesn’t make me an asshole... She’s undeniably qualified, but like Hillary, in a “technically correct” kind of way. All the boxes are checked, but it’s because a shape-shifting political robot has checked them. That said, I’ve been happy to vote for her as a Senator because I think she wields her legal skill and represents our state well there, despite her imperfect record in other offices . I don’t think that would translate well to the White House though. And because this basically rubber-stamps her for 2024, I’m worried about that. Should the Biden/Harris ticket win this year, which I fervently hope they do despite a strong “meh” on both of them, can she beat whatever the Republicans lob up in 4 years? Probably not, because this country has proven itself capable of electing the worst caricature of America ever to breathe oxygen and burn down any shred of progress on everything from civil rights to social justice and environmental responsibility, and those dickheads people aren’t going away. So the D’s will have self-fucked once again, and we will resume the dark timeline. To summarize and tie in to where I began, ugh.

Which is a damn sight more than we can say about what’s happened with Cheeto. If a person is qualified that is all I care about. Now when someone uses a public office to make money they would not otherwise get I see that as much more of an issue. For example if you owned a hotel and had the military rent rooms from you even though it is out of their way that would be bad. Or if you used your influence to get family members trademarks in China that would be bad. If someone got a job they were qualified for 30 years ago and happened to be banging the person who gave them the job I would say no I don't care.

Eh, There are positive and negative descriptions to every personality trait.

So far though, I haven’t heard of any ads or attacks claiming that he’s flip flopping, only that he is being controlled by the radical left. (Which is far more ridiculous , but probably far more effective for Trump’s base).

From what I have seen of Biden though, he seems to be willing to compromise after talking issues through with people, not as a response to pressure from the opposition.  Granted, it could all just be a ploy to get elected, but it’s a hell of a lot more palatable than some other recent strategies.

Yeah, it’s politics. And this level of shadiness seems pretty mild given the world we’re living in. The story is that she was 29, dated Brown who was 65 or something while he was estranged to his wife (i.e. no secret), and Brown bought her a BMW and helped get her some politically connected jobs? And then later once she won her DA seat (which she was elected to after all) she basically told Brown I owe you nothing, and I won’t bat an eyelid at going after your corruption?

I don’t think Trump & co want to touch the whole dating bit (but who are we kidding, of course they will without seeing a hint of irony). The rest of it...the word nepotism comes to mind.

Willie Brown is an EXTREMELY connected man in the Bay Area. Quite literally a king maker. I have friends who were courting him trying to get buzz for their damn high end clothing brand. It’s not crazy to think that he, especially in his position back then, had the power to pull strings for people in his circle. Shady? Yes, absolutely. But is this anything new for how things work? I don’t think so. She’s blazed her own path since then as DA, AG, and in the senate. Any real talking points against her will lie in that record. It’d be pretty hilarious for Trump/Pence to say anything about her Willie Brown connection while the first daughter and her damn husband are running around playing government. BUT OF COURSE THEY WILL. And the base will lap it up. A good deal of it can be boiled down to being a sexist double standard.

p.s. - I’m not disagreeing with you, it certainly is shady. And this is history I didn’t know about her until you mentioned it so I appreciate it. But compared to the alternative am I going to change my vote to T/P (ha!)? I don’t think so :)

That’s the one. My grandma was sharp as a tack until 93, and it’s wonderful when that’s the case. But Biden already appears to have lost a step and at some point people born in the 40's need to get the F out of the way in terms of leadership. Wild that even the silent generation has been strangled out of the presidency.

Biden definitely has lost a step, but he tries to mix it up with tough questioners as if he hasn’t, and the results are clear. Admittedly, he’s always had trouble with his words.

Went straight from WWII “hero” to “ draft dodger” .

We need some sympathetic state DAs and similar.

I know NY will do it, NJ might get on board too, probably CA - the old man, his ridiculous devilspawn, and senior bootlickers all probably have something for prosecution .

once she won her DA seat (which she was elected to after all) she basically told Brown I owe you nothing, and I won’t bat an eyelid at going after your corruption

Which tells me she clearly never loved him, which tells me she was willing to use her body to get with someone with power and influence for her own personal political gain. If someone’s willing to do that to get ahead, what else are they willing to do? What deals are they willing to make?

It’s just so shitty and depressing that these are the kind of people that we get to choose from to lead our country. Maybe I’m being to harsh, but politics is power, and power (and the desire for it) corrupts...

We can only hope. Amazing coincidence DB laundered money for Russian interests and also was one of the few who would issue any line of credit to 45.  Almost like they were a conduit.

You might be right - but it comes back to the age old question of would you turn in your loved one you know committed a crime? She could’ve loved him, but also be acknowledging that hey I have a job to do and a serious one at that, so I’m going to do it and I’m not going to protect you blindly .

I don’t think those two things need to be mutually exclusive. But I totally get what you’re saying too. It’s a level of cut-throatedness that regular folks like us would never be OK with in to in the first place. Sad that this is what “serving the people” has become.

She threatened to go after him for jaywalking...

Show me an example of a couple 30 years apart in age who were clearly together out of love. Just saying... she was clearly with him for access . Plenty of younger guys with old, rich women, too, so it goes both ways.

“Serving the people” - if she saw her “sacrifice” with Willie in the big picture of the “good of the people”, then what else will she ethically sacrifice to see her vision for what she wants American to be play out? I’m not saying her vision is wrong, but too many politicians do the sleaziest of things in service of “the greater good” ( as they see it).

So glad Biden’s given no sign he’ll pardon him.

Men are means to an end.

First Willie, now Joe (not implying that ...) .

Absolutely. I’m not a fan of her track record or her politics, but this truly is the better of two evils right now (and by a long shot).
